Rolleiflex 2.8 & 3.5 & Yashica Mat TLR: Overview of all lenses and bayonet mounts (Bay I, Bay II & Bay III)

Rolleiflex and Rolleicord cameras have been equipped with bayonet mounts for lens accessories (caps, hoods, filters, and close-up lenses) since around 1937.

The idea of these "double bayonets" is that independent mounting of a lens hood and a filter is possible, with the lens hood attached on the outside and the filter on the inside of the bayonet.

The bayonet shutter was made in different sizes depending on the production date of the camera and lens:

1. Bay I (universally used abbreviation for "Bayonet Type I") is the shutter used on cameras with the f/3.5 Tessar, Triotar, and Xenar.

2. Bay II is the mount for the f/3.5 Planar and Xenotar.

3. Bay III is the mount for the f/2.8 Planar and Xenotar; it was also used for the Tele-Rolleiflex with the 135 mm f/4 Sonnar.

4. Bay IV is the mount used for the Wide Rolleiflex with the 55 mm f/4 Distagon.

5. Bay V does not exist — Rollei skipped this number.

6. Bay VI is used for Rolleiflex medium format SLRs like the Rolleiflex 6000, 6006, 6008, and SL66

Most TLRs from other manufacturers like Yashica and Minolta usually have f/3.5 lenses, and the Bay-I mount is the most commonly used here.
